A dental implant is a surgical device that is placed in the jawbone and can grow into the bone within a few months. The dental implant replaces the root of a missing tooth. This "artificial tooth root" in turn serves to hold a replacement tooth or a bridge. A dental implant that has grown into the jawbone comes closest to imitating a natural tooth since it stands on its own without affecting neighboring teeth and has a high degree of stability.
