Most adults have some sort of filler in their mouth, but many choose more natural-looking alternatives that don't show when they laugh or grin. We usually recommend changing an amalgam (also known as a silver filling) only when it is worn out - however, we do not use amalgam in this practice. With some of the newer materials available to us, the life expectancy of your white filling can be comparable to that of an amalgam, but the life expectancy can vary greatly depending on where it is in your mouth and how tightly your teeth come together when you bite. We can estimate how long your fillings will last.
